Here’s everything to know…
You would have to have been living under a rock not to have heard of the recent college admissions scandal, with the recently unearthed scheme reportedly being the largest college admissions scandal of all time.
The scheme in question reportedly saw parents bribe school officials and college coaches to get their children into top colleges, either by cheating on standardised tests or by getting the children accepted as college athletes despite often not even playing the sport.
And among the parents involved were some very famous faces, with Desperate Housewives actress Felicity Huffman and 90210 actress Lori Loughlin among the parents charged for their involvement in what investigators are calling ‘Operation Varsity Blues’.
Felicity allegedly facilitated where and when one of their daughters would take an SAT which would then be falsified, allegedly sending a $15,000 wire payment to a charity in payment.
She was arrested last week and has now been released on bail, reportedly scheduled to appear in court in Boston on 29 March.
While it is unlikely that the 56-year-old has future film projects on her mind, reportedly looking at a potential five year sentence, she is starring in a Netflix limited series that’s set to come out on May 31.
When They See Us directed by Ava DuVernay covers the Central Park Five scandal, recounting the law case against five teenagers who were convicted of raping a jogger in 1989.
The trailer was released this week, but rather than the short film, the internet has been talking about the release due to the now ‘ironic’ casting of Huffman as prosecutor Linda Fairstein.
‘Netflix, what are your plans w/respect to the film When They See Us starring Felicity Huffman coming out May 31 where, ironically, she plays a prosecuting attorney?,’ posted one Twitter user, while others called for the removal of Huffman from the project.
‘Netflix, time to replace Felicity Huffman in When They See Us. We get it, she’s rich and powerful. Enough,’ posted one Twitter user. ‘Hopefully you will reshoot Felicity Huffman scenes in When They See Us’.
Netflix is yet to comment on what will happen to the show.
