The royal family celebrated the Queen’s birthday at Trooping the Colour this weekend. It was Prince Louis’ first official royal appearance, and Meghan Markle surprised everyone by taking an early break from her maternity leave in order to attend the parade.
And while many noticed that Meghan and Kate Middleton both nodded to their wedding days with their chosen outfits, it was the distance between the Cambridges and the Sussexes on the balcony that raised some questions.
The fab four – Prince William, Kate, Prince Harry and Meghan – have hit the headlines in recent months following endless rumours about secret rifts and fall outs. Their royal household officially split, with one source telling PEOPLE: ‘There was power in that unity and great strength in the foursome, but I see why [the divide] is happening.
‘There is always that tension: trying to do the PR thing and then realising that they are just real people. They want their own place and their own things.’
But their placement on the balcony has nothing to do with any of the ‘feud’ allegations. In fact, it’s all very logical.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, told PEOPLE: ‘Meghan was not as prominent perhaps as some people might have expected, but there’s a pecking order.
‘There was no slight intended, but William being the older, more senior brother would go out first with his wife.’
So there you have it.
